Meditation is the art of practicing presence. There are many different forms,
styles and methods. Some are active and some are more still. All work with
attention is some way. The most familiar form is a practice of sitting still in
silence.

However, meditation can also include sound, movement, visualization, and
language, as well as stillness and silence. Whatever the tools and focus, the
intention is to relax fully into the mystery of present moment existence… to
open to the creative flow of life that is sourced right here, right now.

We sit, and in the silence of simply being, we discover that Being is our true
nature. We discover that all movement arises and dissolves within that Mystery.

In class, we start with discussion and then practice with learning to focus
attention. We begin by using mindfulness techniques, training the attention to
gently and patiently return to the breath. We play with various ways of feeling
breath.

We then work with sensation, both in sitting and also in doing very subtle
gentle movement and returning to stillness. We extend this exploration of
sensation into sound – and also silence.

We alternate more active techniques with the practice of just sitting in silence,
of relaxing into simply being present with what is.

During the practice, opportunities arise to work with the appearance of
feelings and/or thoughts. We play with different ways to both allow for contact
with whatever comes up and to also play with their disappearance.

Sitting together as a group supports our focus and the growth of a field of
energy that allows us to more easily contact the depth of the  presence that is
always here.
